Kids to Kids Heart to Heart

A Proposal by Sarah T. Wells

Age 9, Gr. 4

Objective:

To help the orphans of the September 11 tragedy, by involving So. California families and others in the community to participate in a healing effort.

Goal:

To bring as many children as possible to So. Calif. To enjoy time at our amusement parks, for instance, and spend some time at our beautiful beaches. Perhaps our school families could serve as hosts by allowing use of their homes or rental properties for a brief stay, and our local lodging and hotel industry could allow use of rooms. Area amusement and entertainment parks could provide tickets to some of the local attractions. The airline industry might donate airfare, or individuals could donate mileage for airfare.

Origin of the idea:

So many people have been finding ways to help, and that inspired me to do something. My mom was working with an Aspen, Colo. Philanthropist who asked us to donate our Colorado home so that some children from NYC could come to the mountains to ski for a week. It seemed like a similar effort could also work well, here in Southern California.

Who would be eligible:

The Battalion Chiefs of the Engine Companies choose from a list they have compiled, based upon need to heal. Other methods of securing valid names are available.

My plea:

Please consider giving whatever you are able, on any level, and join the community of caring individuals, in making this possible.
